Welcome to the World
Emmett Jordan Bonnett

Where to begin....On July 15, 2011 the doctors ordered
an emergency c-section at 34.5 weeks into my pregnancy.
Two weeks prior I requested an ultrasound due to extreme
discomfort.  The ultrasound revealed a large amount of
fluid in the babies belly and extra amniotic fluid surrounding him.
After 6 hours of tests and ultrasounds we were sent home with
all sorts of scary 'possible' diagnoses for our son.  The next morning
contractions set in and I was in the hospital for 2 days on magnesium
to slow them down.  Two weeks of bedrest and several ultrasounds later
the perinatologist thought Emmett may have something called a
posterior urethral valve, but we wouldn't know until his birth.
This valve did not allow urine to leave his bladder and
instead caused it to build up and perforate his bladder.
The urine leaked into his abdomen putting pressure on
all of his organs, most importantly his lungs and heart.  On Friday,
July 15, our doctor decided the fluid build up was putting
to much pressure on his lungs and sent us off to Froedtert Hospital
to deliver.

It is still difficult to look at some of these pictures, knowing all
that we have been through.  Emmett spent almost 4 weeks in
the NICU before coming home on August 10.  After 2 weeks
home we made an unexpected return trip to the hospital for bilateral inguinal
hernia surgery.  We could not have done it without the love and
support of our families and friends.  Especially our mothers who
drove back and forth for 2 months to take care of Owen and
help us adjust as a family of four.
We love you!

Our beautiful, strong, determined son - Emmett

infection and couldn't come visit for 2 weeks

Brothers Forever
Owen came down with a little cold and wasn't able
to visit Emmett for a while.  He was able to finally
hold him on 8/5/11.  The look on his face was priceless.
He was so gentle with Emmett and so proud to be a big
brother.  I really think they are going to have the best
time together!

My favorite picture of my boys

Emmett's hand grazed Owen's cheek and he said
"he's tickling me"

Boys in Blue

These kisses started in the hospital and occur
several times a day at home - each one very gentle

The last steps to coming home were eating and gaining
weight.  Emmett started with an ng tube to slowly and
continuously put milk into his tummy.

Tube free!!!

Grandma went to the hospital to visit with Daddy one night

As you can imagine it was quite boring for Owen to
sit in the hospital room. He got to watch Thomas on a
portable dvd player to pass the time.

Can you see the relief on our faces?

Emmett came home weighing just under 6 lbs.

Sleepy and sweet on Papa's shoulder

Loving the swing

The Maher crew came for a visit once we were home.
All of his cousins were very excited to meet him and hold him.
The girls are so experienced with holding babies! They did
a great job!
